Ian Sawyer Second Trumpet, Cheyenne Symphony | Trumpet Teacher
As a tenured member of the Cheyenne Symphony, Ian boasts a rich career in trumpet performance and education. His career also includes an active freelance schedule, performing everything from orchestral works to musical theater. He has appeared with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet, and Opera Colorado. His diverse performing background has led him to share the stage with Arturo Sandoval, Dave Grusin, Chris Potter, Rachel Barton Pine, Ricardo Morales and more. He can be heard on Jorge Mejia's album An Open Book: 25 Preludes for Piano and Orchestra and an upcoming trumpet ensemble recording project.
As a dedicated educator, Ian has served as Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at the University of Northern Colorado and maintains an active private studio. His students have gained job placement, been accepted into honor bands, and gone on to pursue advanced degrees in music. Committed to fostering musical excellence, Ian is passionate about helping students reach their full potential and cultivating a lifelong love of music.
Ian holds degrees in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado (BM, 2015) and the University of Miami (MM, 2018), and is currently pursuing his DA in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. While at the University of Miami, he played in the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Ian’s primary teachers are Craig Morris, Philip Hembree, and John Adler.
